PANG warns of 'burden' from PACER-Plus on Pacific states

From , 5:04 am on 2 March 2020

The Pacific Network on Globalisation says Pacific nations will bear an unbalanced burden under the regional trade deal PACER Plus.

Eleven countries, including Australia and New Zealand, have signed the deal, which only comes into effect after its been ratified by eight of the signatories.

So far three have ratified and two more have signalled they plan to do so, including the Cook Islands which believes the deal will come into force this year.

The Cooks' government says it will bring immediate benefits, but the network's Adam Wolfenden says the deal is unbalanced.
