NZ universities sets deadlines to eliminate disparities

Some universities are reluctant to set deadlines for eliminating long-standing disparities for Māori and Pacific students.

The Tertiary Education Commission now requires target dates for reaching parity.

It has been trying for more than a decade to stop Māori and Pacific students failing courses and dropping out at higher rates than other students.

RNZ's education correspondent John Gerritsen reports.
