In New Caledonia, pro-independence activists took to the streets at the weekend, protesting against planned constitutional changes which they fear will derail their fight for self-determination.
They're calling for a U-turn on the changes which could strengthen voting rights for anti-independence supporters.
RNZ Pacific's Lydia Lewis was in New Caledonia as thousands of protesters from both sides poured into the capital, Noumea.
