UN closely involved in struggle to curb PNG violence

The United Nations is seeking more international assistance as it strives to help Papua New Guinea overcome the violence that frequently erupts throughout the country.

The UNDP's resident director in PNG, Nicholas Booth, says since the earthquakes in 2017 in Hela Province the agency has been involved in work to stop the violence.

He told Don Wiseman that it quickly became apparent that before any development in the area, peace building would need to be strengthened.
