Sarah Hillary's godmother remembers the celebration

From Afternoons, 2:23 pm on 29 May 2013

Sixty years ago Gertrude and Percivil Hillary were totally unprepared for the flood of phone calls and well wishers who would descend on their South Auckland home when news came through about what their son and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had achieved. Alison Frye was just 15 years old when she and her parents arrived at the Hillary home to all the excitement that day. Her father, a keen climber himself, had been helping Ed with the camera he would use to record this historic event. Alison and Sir Ed's first wife, Louise, were friends and she is Sarah Hillary's godmother.
