AT THE MOVIES #946   REALITY BITES

Dan Slevin is sitting in for Simon Morris and reviews three reality based films: a documentary about the pandemic science communicator Dr. Siouxsie Wiles, the spy author John Le Carré and two concert movies that demonstrate the state of the art, 40 years apart.

Ms. Information is a documentary about the microbiologist and science communicator Dr. Siouxsie Wiles who was the face of the Aotearoa Covid pandemic response but who experienced an ugly backlash when public opinion started to change.

Spy novelist John Le Carré gave his last interview to the famous documentarian Errol Morris shortly before he died in 2020. The Pigeon Tunnel is a result of those interviews, in which a great interviewer tries to get under the skin of someone who is naturally resistant to self-examination.

Two concert movies made 40 years apart demonstrate the incredible power of music on the big screen: the restored version of Talking Heads’ 1984 film Stop Making Sense and Taylor Swift's epic 2023 stadium show, The Eras Tour.
