More than 20 youth escape from secure residences since 2015

More than twenty young people have escaped from Youth Justice Residences since 2015 - some spending almost two weeks on the run. The figures were obtained by RNZ, following a high-profile manhunt for two teenagers who escaped from Auckland's Korowai Manaaki in July. The Children's Commissioner thinks it's far from ideal, but Oranga Tamariki says the public can trust it to securely care for young offenders. Our Youth Affairs reporter Katie Doyle has the story.
