Louisa Wall: Mike Williams on Labour Party caucus selections

From First Up, 5:52 am on 11 April 2022

Outgoing Labour MP Louisa Wall says Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern didn't want her to be in the party's caucus, let alone a member of Cabinet. Ms Wall, who's been in Parliament for 14 years, is quitting to take up a role as Ambassador for Gender Equality in the Pacific. Speaking on TVNZ's Q + A programme yesterday, Ms Wall was asked by presenter Jack Tame why she never became a minister. She was also asked why she was blocked from speaking during a debate on the Zero Suicide Aotearoa report last year, despite having been heavily involved. In 2020 Ms Wall threatened legal action against her own party after it accepted another nomination to contest the Manurewa electorate that she had held since 2011. She ended up running on the party list. Nathan Rarere spoke with the former Labour Party president Mike Williams.
