Legal expert says move by NZ DPRK society was sadly naive

From Midday Report, 12:17 pm on 21 October 2020

An international law expert is pouring cold water on claims by the New Zealand Democratic People's Republic of Korea Society that they were unfairly targeted by authorities for sending PPE to the nuclear-armed country.

That group sent $US2,000 to Indonesia, where someone else took it to the local North Korean embassy for the North Korean Red Cross to buy the PPE.

Its secretary, Peter Wilson, says they've got the receipts and photos to prove the money was used for humanitarian purposes.

But an international lawyer working on a project to help countries implement the sanctions against North Korea, Angela Woodward, told Māni Dunlop that the group was sadly naive.
