Protests against Manawatū District Council delaying Māori ward

From Midday Report, 12:44 pm on 11 May 2021

Hundreds of people have gathered outside the Manuwatū District Council buildings in Feilding to protest against the council kicking the can down the road on Māori representation. The council voted last week to defer a decision on Māori wards until 2023. In 2017 the council voted to establish a Māori ward, but that was later overturned in a binding referendum. The spokesperson of Te Kōtui Reo Taumata Collective Meihana Durie speaks to Philippa Tolley.
