Williamson won the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for the second year in a row, having led the side to one of their most successful home summers with test series wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh.

He scored four test centuries and equalled record for most test centuries by a New Zealander - 17 - a record he shares with Martin Crowe.

And when he scored his 5-thousandth test run this week, he did so in fewer tests than any other New Zealander.

Williamson told sports reporter Matt Chatterton he's honoured to receive the award but preferred reflecting on the team achievements rather than his own.
