KiwiRail resumes long distance trips

From Morning Report, 8:29 am on 30 July 2020

KiwiRail's long distance scenic services are returning.

The train trips were stopped when New Zealand went into Alert Level 4 in March.

The South Island's TranzAlpine was the first to get back on track, taking its first passengers in early July.

The Coastal Pacific, which travels between Picton and Christchurch via Kaikōura, and the Northern Explorer, which travels between Wellington and Auckland, will take bookings in the spring.

Greg Miller is KiwiRail's chief executive.
