Covid-19: Government axes Louise Nicholas' contract

From Morning Report, 8:31 am on 24 August 2020

Rape survivor Louise Nicholas says she will not give up advocating for victims of sexual violence, despite the government axing her contract.

The Ministry of Social Development announced the decision via a Zoom call, a move which has been called "absolutely disgraceful" by the National Party.

They say they would restore the funding if they get in to government.

Currently there's no not for profit or other advocacy group which works with children, and Nicholas intends to set up a trust to continue her work and independently support the voices of survivors.

She speaks to Susie Ferguson.
