A cyber security expert warns the cyber attack on Waikato District Health Board could lead to patients information being shared on a website.
The attack appears to be a type of ransomware called "Conti" - the same type of attack that targeted Ireland's Health department last week.
Cyber security consultant Daniel Ayers told political reporter Charlie Dreaver this ransomware has caused a lot of difficulties around the world- particularly targetting healthcare.
