Dairy NZ not happy with last year's decision for visa exemptions

From Morning Report, 6:23 am on 10 June 2021

Dairy NZ says the immigration minister should look into whether the criteria used last year to decide who should get border exemptions was fair - with the dairy industry losing out to film and space projects.

New documents, released under the Official Information Act from last May, show Government Ministries at odds over how decisions were made.

The Ministry for Primary Industries told the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment the rules were overly restrictive, unworkable and skewed to small sectors.

Dairy NZ's chief executive Tim Mackle told RNZ's immigration reporter Gill Bonnett farmers would be extremely concerned if officials had been picking winners and losers.
