New Zealand is at risk of giving China coercive power over its economy, according to an American general who held a top national security role with the US government.
General HR McMaster, who served as Donald Trump's National Security advisor, says New Zealanders often talk about not wanting to be caught in the middle of a scrap between American and China.
But the real choice for New Zealand, he says, is between sovereignty and servitude.
His comments were made in an interview for the new podcast series Red Line by RNZ's Guyon Espiner and John Daniell of Bird of Paradise Productions.
