Concern over building supplies as construction restarts

From Morning Report, 8:23 am on 1 September 2021

Thousands of construction sites are re-opening today amid predictions that common building products could run out in just three days.

The construction sector says the Government's failed to understand how damaging it will be to shut warehouses in alert level 4 Auckland while alert level 3 sites cry out for materials.

Phil Pennington reports.

In a statement received late last night, the Minister for Building and Construction Poto WIlliams said that when products in Auckland warehouses were previously released for nationwide delivery, there was no delta variant and it was during an Alert Level 3/2 split.

She says ministers are exploring options to address supply chain issues in the construction industry.
