Winter Olympics finish with NZ success

From Morning Report, 7:35 am on 21 February 2022

The Winter Olympics are over, with the curtain coming down in Beijing overnight in a colourful closing ceremony.

Leading a small New Zealand contingent into the Birds Nest Stadium was flagbearer Nico Porteous, whose gold medal in the freeski halfpipe competition over the weekend contributed to our record haul.

Of course, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott bagged a gold and silver earlier in Games.

Before the ceremony, 20-year-old Wanaka skier Nico Porteous told producer Michael Cropp about the hard work that went into his win.

New Zealand ended up 17th on the medal table ahead of both Australia and Great Britain.
