Pharmac is consulting on widening access to the Meningococcal B vaccine Bexsero and put it on the childhood immunisation schedule.
The drug buying agency also wants to run a catch-up programme for children up to 5 and young people aged 13-to-25 years old who are in close-living situations such as hostels or dorms.
The Meningitis Foundation welcomes the news but says the vaccine which would protect against disability and death should be made available free of charge universally.
