Whangarei GP concerned about lack of access to Covid-19 vaccine

From Morning Report, 7:19 am on 14 December 2022

A Whangarei GP is concerned at how difficult it is to access the Covid-19 vaccine, as case numbers surge and booster rates stall.

Only 43 percent of people aged over 50 have had their second booster.

In some rural areas, only about a quarter of those eligible have had the booster.

Despite a third wave of Covid striking in the lead up to Christmas, there has been no spike in interest from people wanting greater protection.

Dr Geoff Cunningham says fewer GPs and pharmacies are offering the booster because it's hard to deliver in small numbers.

He spoke to Kim Hill.
