Net migration numbers historically high at 70,000

New Zealand's net migration numbers are historically high, with more than 70,000 people coming into the country in the year to April.

Massey University sociologist Paul Spoonley says the numbers show New Zealand is attracting workers at a greater clip than Australia, and at the same rate as Canada.

He says that's impressive given there were concerns earlier in the year that the country was unable to attract talent in a competitive global environment.

Professor Spoonley spoke with Ingrid Hipkiss.
