Heavy rain has fallen in Milford Sound Sunday night and it is expected to move further north Monday morning.
Watches and warnings are in force for most of the West Coast, with conditions predicted to linger until Tuesday morning.
A strong wind watch is also in place for the Canterbury High Country, where gales are expected.
