US Congress to vote on bill to avoid government shutdown

The US Congress is voting Tuesday morning on whether to approve a bill that would see the government avoiding a shutdown.

The last time Congress tried to fund the government to prevent a shut down, it ended with the Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy losing his job.

This time, new Speaker Mike Johnson appears on track for a better outcome as he introduces a stopgap package to keep the government running into the new year.
