1.20  Sinead O’Connor Tribute  

Especially with the tragic news that Irish Singer songwriter SINEAD O’CONNOR died this week - after struggling with her mental health for years.  She was an Activist, a musician, and a mother.
But above all, it was her political views and her voice that defined her. 

We pay tribute to her life on the show today.

1.35 M. Ward's new album 'Supernatural Thing' 

M Ward, a musician from Portland, Oregon released his 12th studio album SUPERNATURAL THING last month.

The album as you will hear is inspired by M Wards love of radio - and the supernatural occurrences that happen when songs are transmitted to people and the possible effect of listeners mood and emotions 

The album is one of his best in many years - featuring collaborations with First Aid Kit and Nico Case - with warm radio sounds using vintage gear - and even a David Bowie cover. 

Charlotte Ryan spoke to M Ward about the album, collaborations and a shared love of radio. 

2.00 Princess Chelsea Music 101 Live Session

This week week on Music 101 we have a very special live session from Princess Chelsea aka Chelsea Nikkel - You may know her from her international online success of 'The Cigarette Duet' Which is currently at 95 million views, but Chelsea has also had a very big year back home in Aotearoa - She was the winner of the 2023 Taite Music Prize and finalist in two categories,  she is also a finalist in the new Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards for Best Record and Best Single, 

Princess Chelsea plays live in studio with bandmates Joshua Worthington-Church,Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent  David Harris, Jasmine Balmer Joe Kaptein and Kate Tindall.

This week we are being introduced to the new project of Thomas Powers  - formerly of the award-winning pop band Naked and Famous.  

This is the first single off his debut solo album and features fellow New Zealander Chelsea Jade.

3.30  Loyle Carner - Ahead of his Elemental Nights show in Auckland  

English hip Hop musician Loyle Carner performs in NZ tonight at the Auckland Town Hall as part of Elemental Nights.

Following the release of his 3rd album 'Hugo', Loyle Carner brings his magnetic personality to the Auckland Town Hall stage in his first ever NZ headline show.

He has captured the imagination of British music receiving a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize, nominations for BRIT Awards and has won an NME Award.

3.40 i.e crazy - Country Justice 

Frances Libeau releases music under the name i.e crazy  - Some of you may remember their former musical project Dear Times Waste. 

Their sound designs, film/commercial compositions, videos and writing leak through the formal demarcations of discipline into realms of moving image, screen sonics, composition, poetry, music, and live art.

Charlotte Ryan talks to i.e Crazy about the album. 

4pm  The Mixtape - Shaneel Lal

Our guest on the Mixtape this week picking their favourite songs and talking about life is activist Shaneel Lal.

The 23-year-old was named Young New Zealander of the Year in 2022 for their work in the rainbow community.

They were instrumental in the fight to ban conversion therapy in NZ after experiencing it for themselves while growing up in Fiji. Shaneel has released their first book, an incredibly heartbreaking yet defiant memoir called 'ONE OF THEM'
