Long Island trio, De La Soul, burst into hip hop's golden age with their ground breaking debut, 3 Feet High and Rising, in 1989. The album welcomed new audiences to the burgeoning genre, reeling them in with a wide palette of quirky samples, deft wordplay, crack-up skits and a playful tone unlike anything else on offer.

While they were In Aotearoa for WOMAD Taranaki, Trevor Reekie joined Pos and Dave to talk about their debut, their relationship with Prince Paul and Tommy Boy Records and their joyful use of samples.
