Bitter in defeat: Auckland mayoral rival John Tamihere

After being defeated in the Auckland election race yesterday, John Tamihere failed to congratulate Phil Goff for being again voted in as the city's mayor. Mr Tamihere received about 71,000 votes to Mr Goff's 156,000 after a hard-fought campaign in which the pair faced off in more than 40 debates, which often became heated and personal. RNZ reporter Matthew Theunissen was at John Tamihere's election day event in west Auckland yesterday and says there's no love lost between the two rivals.
