Well known and respected Business Journalist and commentator Rod Oram has died.

Rod passed away yesterday afternoon as a result of the injuries from a cycling accident on Sunday. He is survived by his wife Lynn, daughter Celeste and son in law Keir.

Rod was our regular business commentator on Nine to Noon for 19 years - racking up an impressive 800 episodes on everything from the economy and climate change to business transformation and government policy.

Rod was an experienced financial journalist in the UK, and after moving to New Zealand with his family in 1997, he contributed widely to NZ media, including the Business Herald and Newsroom.co.nz.  In recent years his journalism increasingly focused on climate and environmental issues and policy, and where they intersect with business and industry, and government.

He was a passionate cyclist - had completed the Tour de Aotearoa several times - and would usually bike into RNZ's Auckland studio for his Nine to Noon appearances.

Rod was kind, thorough, intelligent, and utterly professional , and genuinely passionate about the issues he reported -  and will be sorely missed by many.

Our deep condolences to Lynn, Celeste and Keir and all Rod's friends.
