DB Breweries managing director steps down

7:06 pm on 21 November 2012

DB Breweries managing director Brian Blake is to step down after nearly 20 years at the helm.

Beer consumption has steadily declined, with brewers taking steps to lift margins by taking advantage of the rise in popularity of more expensive premium ales and lagers.

Despite tough economic conditions in recent years, Mr Blake says he leaves DB in an extremely strong financial position, achieving three consecutive years of double digit profit growth.

While he'll step down as managing director, Mr Blake will stay on as chairman.

Mr Blake joined the company in 1983 as finance director to DB's central region based in Wellington.
