Another Pacific airfare scam

Police in Counties Manukau investigating the sale of fake airline tickets to Tongans in Waikato and Auckland have uncovered a similar scam targetting Fijians.

They have been contacted by about 30 people who paid cheap airfares to Fiji for seats that did not exist.

Sergeant Reon Blake says the Fijian scam appears to be the work of different culprits from the one involving Tongan people who paid $200 - $300 each to fly to a school reunion, but never got the tickets.

Complaints have been received from more than 40 Tongans so far, but up to 150 people could be affected.
