New Zealand has come top in an international survey of where British expats prefer to live.

In the Natwest International bank survey of more than 2000 British immigrants in 12 countries, New Zealand was rated first for quality of life, with Canada second and Australia third.

People cited relatively low property prices, a warmer climate and a less stressful life as reasons for moving from Britain to New Zealand.

British expat Jill Stares says she and her husband lived in Sydney, but moved to Wellington four years ago and much prefer it. They can afford a better home in Wellington than they had in England, she says.
