A former Northland police officer has been charged with drug-trafficking. He is Michael Blowers, who until recently was a detective in Whangarei.

The 43-year-old is facing charges of selling cannabis and supplying methamphetamine. Name suppression was lifted on Monday.

Northland police commander Russell Le Prou said on Monday the allegations are very disappointing.

Mr Le Prou said the investigation began when a member of staff came forward with concerns.
