Two gang members will reappear in Gisborne District Court on Tuesday after allegedly knocking two policemen unconscious last week.

The Mongrel Mob members have been charged with wounding with intent to injure after an incident on Friday.

The detectives were conducting inquiries in the suburb of Kaiti when they were allegedly attacked and injured on the footpath by a group of gang members.

Both officers were knocked out and treated in hospital for possible concussion. They have been discharged and given time off work to recuperate.

Police arrested two men who appeared in court on Saturday and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
