Green light for Raglan windfarm

10:50 am on 26 November 2008

A 28 turbine wind farm at Te Uku near Raglan is to proceed following mediation that resolved opposition to the plan.

The $200 million project is a joint venture between WEL Networks and Meridian Energy.

Three parties appealed the granting of resource consents for the wind farm; but these have now been settled after agreement over ways to mitigate their concerns.

Measures includes the setting up of a community liaison group.

The Environment Court has now issued a consent order and construction is likely to start in October next year.

The wind farm will generate enough electricity to supply the annual needs of around 30,000 houses.
