A masked man was disarmed and fired at with his own gun when trying to rob a Chinese takeaway shop in Tokoroa on Monday night.
The man entered the premises and demanded money at about 9.50pm. However, the owner resisted.
Police say a number of shots were fired and the offender may have been wounded before he fled on foot in the direction of Balmoral Drive.
The scene was guarded overnight.
