The Wanganui District Council says a ban on gang patches will be reintroduced next year.
The by-law banning patches had to be redrafted after the High Court ruled last year that applied too widely.
Mayor Annette Main told Radio New Zealand's Checkpoint programme on Monday the new version bans patches in specific problem areas such as sportsgrounds, shopping malls and beaches.
Ms Main says the ban still needs to be signed off and put out for public consultation and should come into effect early next year.
