Pair in hospital after crash knocks out power

12:17 pm on 17 July 2008

Two people are in hospital after their vehicle hit a power pole in Paekakariki, north of Wellington, cutting power to the area on Thursday morning.

The pair, aged 20 and 18, have been injured but are not in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital, the ambulance service said.

The car collided with the pole just before 8am on Thursday, closing the road for about 15 minutes, banking up peak traffic, police said.

The road has reopened but speed restrictions of 30km/h are in place while the pole is being repaired.

Lines company Electra says power has been restored.
