The Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Gordon Darcy Lilo has hosted a meeting with the President of Japan's International Cooperation Agency, JICA.

Akihiko Tanaka is on a two-day visit to Solomon Islands where he will meet with JICA officials, volunteers and government officials.

He and Mr Lilo held discussions on various subjects ranging from grant aid to JICA volunteer programs which the Prime Minister says are making a significant contribution in rural Solomon Islands.

Mr Lilo has acknowledged relief assistance that JICA has extended for victims of last month's devastating flooding in Guadalcanal that left at least 22 people dead and hundreds homeless.

He also made acknowledgment of Japan's help to rebuild the two Mataniko bridges after the recent floods, as well as JICA's ongoing work in developing the national port in Honiara, and the main highway in the city.
