DHB concerned at costs for Queenstown

The Southern District Health Board has major concerns about the costs of implementing a hard-hitting report from the National Health Board about hospital services in Queenstown.

The DHB on Friday voted to accept all 21 recommendations from the National Health Board, including keeping Lakes District Hospital on its present site, installing a CT scanner and providing walk-in Emergency Department care.

The NHB's Wakatipu expert panel chairman, Peter Foley, said in his report that the costs would remain the same as what the DHB currently funds - about $24 million a year.

But board member Richard Thomson questioned this, and put forward a motion - which was passed - requesting detailed costings in a month's time.

Meanwhile, two health action groups in Queenstown who fought for the recommendations as presented by the NHB are happy the DHB has accepted them.
