The Czech player, Lukas Rosol, who caused a major upset at Wimbledon by knocking out Rafael Nadal, has been beaten.
Rosol lost in straight sets, 6-2 6-3 7-6 to German Philipp Kohlschreiber in just 97 minutes.
Elswewhere Serena Williams was made to fight for her passage to the last 16 beating Chinese 25th seed Zheng Jie 6-7 6-2 9-7.
Her opponent in the last 16 will be Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova who was the first player in Grand Slam history to win a 'golden set' after she won all 24 points in the first set of her third round victory.
