Mundine loses to Geale

The IBF middleweight boxing world champion Daniel Geale has beaten Anthony Mundine with a unanimous points win to avenge his only professional loss and raise questions over Mundine's future in the sport.

The world title fight in front of what appeared to be a full Sydney Entertainment Centre featured numerous quickfire inside exchanges between the two fast-handed Australian fighters, but ultimately the 31-year-old Geale outworked the 37-year old Mundine.

Mundine landed several right-hand shots during the bout, but couldn't match the champion's work rate, and two judges scored it to Geale 117-111 and the other 116-112 to Geale.

It was Geale's fourth successful title defence and sets up the possibility of more unification bouts down the track.

Footballer-boxers Sonny Bill Williams and Quade Cooper were there, as were the rugby league stars Todd Carney and Nathan Hindmarsh and the new Football Federation Australia boss David Gallop.
