Former Australian international Scott Fava has been forced to retire from professional rugby after sustaining a chronic back injury early this year.

The New South Wales Warratahs player was due to complete his two-year contract with the club in 2010, but has been unable to fully recover from the injury.

Scott Fava says he has worked hard on the sidelines over the past few months, but has been unable to reach the fitness level required for the professional game.

Fava made his international debut for the Wallabies in 2005 and is the only player to take to the field for each of Australia's four Super Rugby teams.
