The New Zealand BMX team is finally on its way to Europe after a week-long enforced stopover in California.

The squad, including double world champion Sarah Walker, was on its way to a training camp with the Dutch national squad as part of its buildup for the World Cup in Denmark in May.

The team got to LA but was delayed because of the disruption to air travel by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

However they were able to train at the US BMX Supercross venue near San Diego, which coach Ken Cools says was a benefit as it meant six of the world's top 20 were training together.

The World Cup is in Copenhagen in early May.
