All Whites formation looks set to cause the opposition problems

The New Zealand football team looks set to be a competitive force at next month's football world cup in South Africa, with three strikers up front proving to be a promising combination.

The All Whites coach, Ricki Herbert, played a 3-4-3 formation against Australia in Melbourne on Monday, and the forwards caused a lot of trouble for the home side's defence.

The former All Whites captain, Danny Hay, says the 2-1 loss was unlucky for the visitors, and the combination of strikers Rory Fallon, Shane Smeltz and Chris Killen, worked well.

The All Whites play Serbia in Austria this weekend, with the replacement for injured midfielder Tim Brown likely to be named by tomorrow.
