The champion New Zealand under-20 rugby side has thrashed Fiji 44-11 in their opening pool match at the junior world championships in Santa Fe, in Argentina.

In the first full senior internationals of the season, a second-string South African side's narrowly beaten Wales, 34 to 31 in Cardiff, and Australia's thrashed Fiji 49-3.

And two Sunday newspapers are reporting that the former Kiwis rugby league international Sonny Bill Williams has turned down the richest contract in rugby union with Toulon, to sign with New Zealand rugby.
