The German golfer Martin Kaymer has risen eight places in the world rankings to a career-high 5th spot after winning the last major championship of the year, the USPGA title at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

25 year old Kaymer showed nerves of steel in yesterday's three-hole playoff with the American Bubba Watson to seal Germany's first major win since Bernhard Langer's 1993 U.S. Masters victory.
