Bulldogs sack young halfback

6:09 pm on 31 July 2008

The Bulldogs have torn up the contract of young New Zealand-born halfback Arana Taumata after he admitted to breaking the club's code of conduct.

Taumata joined the Bulldogs this year on a one-season contract that included a clause citing no second chances for misbehaviour.

The 19-year-old halfback was involved in an off-field incident several weeks ago in which another man was left with a broken jaw.

No police charges were laid but the Dogs investigated before sacking Taumata, who was promoted to first grade by coach Steve Folkes earlier this month and played halfback in Monday night's 30-0 loss to St George Illawarra.
