New Zealand first-five Dan Carter has surpassed England's Jonny Wilkinson as the highest points scorer in rugby union Tests.

Carter broke the record when he kicked his third penalty in the Tri-Nations Test against South Africa.

The successful kick 29 minutes into the first half at Soweto raised the Canterbury star's tally to 1113 points - two more than Wilkinson, who plays for French club Toulon.
