The former winner and current world number seven David Ferrer of Spain has confirmed he'll play in January's Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland.

Ferrer, who won the tournament in 2007, has an impressive record at the tournament having reached the quarterfinals on five of the six occasions he's played.

He's won nine singles titles in his career and his best performance this year came last week, when he won at home in Valencia, beating Andy Murray and Robin Soderling on the way to the final.

Ferrer joins this year's winner John Isner and 2008 winner Philipp Kohlschreiber as confirmed starters.
