Adelaide close gap on Roar at top of A-League

12:40 pm on 20 November 2010

Adelaide United maintained the pressure on A-League football leaders Brisbane Roar, closing to within two points of the Queenslanders with a 2-0 victory over Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park.

Robert Cornthwaite's fifth minute header and a 73rd minute goal to Marcos Flores sealed the Reds all three points to shore up their top two position.

In a largely uninspiring match, the Reds were content to sit on their early lead, soak up any Heart pressure and then counter-attack.

The ploy worked to perfection and helped Adelaide overcome a mini-slump in which they had lost three of their previous four matches.

The Heart remain in the top six but have now lost their last two matches to the top two in the competition following a 2-1 defeat by the Roar last weekend.
