Rugby league player suspended for refusing drug test

The rugby league player Kyle Reuben has been suspended by the Sports Tribunal for two years for refusing or failing to provide a sample for drug testing.

Reuben was tested after playing for Southern against Counties Manukau in the national provincial competition but provided an insufficient sample.

After a conversation with the drug testing chaperone in which he asked about possible repercussions for cannabis use, he told the chaperone that he was not prepared to wait to pass a further sample and would accept the consequences and walked off without completing the test.

Reuben admitted the violation.
